I think my favourite has been the Swedish Ingmar Bergman that played at the National decades ago. Fortinbras and his army abseiled into Elsinore clutching Uzis.
I'm not saying this production was perfect - it wasn't, and there were inconsistencies - but I thought Maxine was incandescent.Robhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11647405720597546140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13255928.post-65796998620543106112014-10-12T21:25:58.852+01:002014-10-12T21:25:58.852+01:00Rob, I saw this production last week and was often...Rob, I saw this production last week and was often disappointed by it. For example I like my Hamlets with all the political stuff. This one ended in the style of a Victorian production. I had no problem with Maxine Peake but why not be consistent and simply have a woman play Polonius. And can anyone explain the jumble of graveside jumpers?
For me it did not come near Greg Doran's production with David Tennant for the RSC.Ray Waterhousenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13255928.post-88153903065983105532013-12-29T22:09:10.540+00:002013-12-29T22:09:10.540+00:00I was not impressed with the WB course,I complaine...I was not impressed with the WB course,I complained about the attitudeof the tutor I was allocated..I withdrew from the Novel Writing/Journalism back in 2007....I found the study material lame..and outdated . When I was student 20 years ago I approached them, I was green, naive and rather stupid (but that is the role of the teenager) and they loved my poetry. I heard warning bells straightaway when they asked for money. I've gone onto be published but I framed that Minerva letter to remind me, that there are always companies and people out there who will promise the earth and deliver nothing. Writing, like any job, is hard work and takes grafting, so many people get suckered into the quick fix mentality. Isn't it more about them wanting to be rich, to be famous than it is about the writing?Andrew Oldhamhttp://www.andrewoldham.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13255928.post-39213912973159025272012-07-17T17:09:15.180+01:002012-07-17T17:09:15.180+01:00Sounds brilliant.Sounds brilliant.harriethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04470091985662379182noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13255928.post-76491256860573676082012-03-04T09:52:06.017+00:002012-03-04T09:52:06.017+00:00The Mancs win hands-down for audience participatio...The Mancs win hands-down for audience participation.'er indoorsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13255928.post-4406612532604205632012-03-04T09:38:01.662+00:002012-03-04T09:38:01.662+00:00Yes, that's good to hear, though I suspect sch...Yes, that's good to hear, though I suspect schools are still insisting on ties for male staff.Robhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11647405720597546140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13255928.post-29334703376566300402012-03-02T22:00:59.915+00:002012-03-02T22:00:59.915+00:00There was an article on this very topic this morni...There was an article on this very topic this morning on the World Service. It seems that only 18% of the UK population now wear a tie to work, and sales have dropped drastically in recent years. A reporter took to the streets to find out how people view ties and the wearing of. You are, you'll be pleased to know, considered 'cool' and 'more modern' for not bothering with one, whilst those who do are considered 'stuffy' and 'OT.T.'. The reporter also pointed out that some of the world's most successful businessmen and movers and shakers in general are resolutely anti-tie. So there you are - you're in good company... :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13255928.post-85168178915084952032011-12-08T22:42:34.628+00:002011-12-08T22:42:34.628+00:00I would say you're elegant as you are!I would say you're elegant as you are!Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10573507223708416044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13255928.post-12119868251155770612011-11-20T20:52:47.419+00:002011-11-20T20:52:47.419+00:00I couldn't possibly comment, Jules.I couldn't possibly comment, Jules.Robhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11647405720597546140noreply@blogger.com
