There are students who consider it an unreasonable demand to read 5 books in 6 months - and take to the summaries instead.Whenever I ask my students to prepare a manual of a mobile phone or an mp3 player, they are seldom able to disguise their horror ...francessahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12444610284524067406noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13255928.post-1126274825378636332005-09-09T15:07:00.000+01:002005-09-09T15:07:00.000+01:00The best course I did was E211 'Learning Matters' ...The best course I did was E211 'Learning Matters' and it was about learning to learn, how we learned, knowing how we learned, understanding and so on. It used lots of especially written OU interactive software, DVDs, CDs, group work and books and the Course Team were very proud of their new course as it was innovative

Sadly it only lasted the first year presentation as it was very progressive and the student uptake was so low it was uneconomical.

Those that did take it were mainly in education and enjoyed. I loved it 'cos there was lots of reflection and I do good reflection!Buggles Balham High Roadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09125960985736834277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13255928.post-1126250388729820912005-09-09T08:19:00.000+01:002005-09-09T08:19:00.000+01:00Brilliant! I have to learn something, so you have to do it for me...
You are right about student perceptions of learning as transfer - that's why nothing like enough of them engage with the topic they are "studying" -cp. Learning is a skill which can be taught. Does that make sense to you? I know what I mean. :-)

A request from a friend "Kath, I have really got to learn how to use this software. Will you have a go with it and read the manual for me?"
