Credit Crunch Cloud has Silver Lining

To a well-known supermarket (not T*sco, obviously)  with 'er indoors to purchase such Christmas baubles as we require for our frugal Winterval celebration. Amongst the seasonal tat, I discover a CD of Ella Fitzgerald for one of your English pounds, or Euros, as we now call them. A quid! I spent £2.95 on a very indifferent coffee at Piccadilly station last week. For a third of that, I get Ella with Satchmo, the Inkspots, Louis Jordan and others singing a great collection of classic tunes. I can't think of anything for a pound that would give me greater pleasure.

I am impressed by your shopping prowess, especially at this time of year. I, for one, have many CDs of the divine Ella, mostly the songbook collections. But were I to obtain one for a pound, it would make the pleasure all the sweeter.

Happy holidays

Merci, Madame- though I have to say that MDF connotes medium density fibreboard in these parts: the standard component of any Ikea or similar build-it-yourself furniture.
The songbook collections are, of course, sublime, and I'm sure I have most of these tracks elsewhere, but it's a fine collection for a pound.
Joyeux Noel to you and yours.

I like it when she forgets the words to Mack the Knife. We would normally listen to her during tree mantling, but this year it all went awry.

Mack the Knife may well be the subject of another post. Not featured on this collection, though very much featured elsewhere chez Topsyturvydom. You need a tree-wrangler!

Lyle Lovett does a suitably lugubrious version of 'Moritat' which is well worth a listen.

Interesting, Petal. I will investigate Mr Lovett's take on Bert.

"I can't think of anything for a pound that would give me greater pleasure" - is this an invitation to make helpful suggestions?

Be my guest Mr Roy, and anyone else- what is the most pleasurable thing you can get for a pound? Er- should I put comment moderation on for this?
