Term-time working 'lowers grades'

BBC NEWS | Education | Term-time working 'lowers grades' The department of the bleeding obvious has clearly been working overtime of late. I suppose the statistics will be useful in the debate about student funding, but surely no-one can be surprised by this?

I really can't understand why the BBC consider this sort of stuff to be newsworthy. It isn't news to any of us. Perhaps they are trying to help by raising public awareness.

I'm equally staggered by the finding that working students tend to be those from disadvantaged backgrounds. I mean, who would have thought it?

Well, quite. I think there's another issue that these findings don't address, though. My observations suggest that students use part time work to fund a lifestyle, rather than to keep body and soul together while studying. Working 15-20 hours a week and partying most nights doesn't leave much time for study.

Amen to that Rob! I've had to cut down the amount of work I do just so that I can rcover! :-)
